On Tuesday 15 January, gunmen attacked the compound in the Westlands district of Kenya’s capital Nairobi, killing at least 14 people. The attack is the most high-profile terror attack in the East African country in several years.
Officials originally announced the end of the siege hours after it began, but gunfire and explosions were heard again early on Wednesday. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has confirmed that the Nairobi terror attack is now over.
The incident began at a bank inside the compound Tuesday afternoon, with an explosion targeting three vehicles in the car park, followed by a suicide blast in the Dusit Hotel foyer, where guests sustained severe injuries.
Compassion Kenya have confirmed that all sponsored children and Compassion Kenya national staff members are safe and accounted for.
Father God, we pray for your peace and comfort for those impacted by the attack in Nairobi. We ask for your wisdom for the government and officials as they lead the response to the situation. Father, bring your comfort to those who have lost precious loved ones. Provide your peace to those suffering trauma.
We pray you would bless the nation of Kenya.
In your son’s mighty name, Amen.
