Pray for Haiti in the aftermath of the 2021 earthquake

Please keep Haiti in your prayers as the country recovers from the devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit the country on Saturday, 14 August. 

Officials have confirmed at least 2,207 people have died. Homes, churches and schools were among the buildings destroyed in the quake. A confirmed 15,654 Compassion-supported children were affected.

Communities were also battered by floods and mudslides as tropical storm, Grace, hit Haiti on the 17 August. 

Compassion has a long history of serving the children of Haiti and we’re making every effort to support our affected church partners and the children in their care. In total, 34 Compassion church projects have suffered substantial damage in the earthquake. In addition, 12,000 homes are damaged and need repairing or rebuilding. Our team are supplying food packs, hygiene kits and medical care to Compassion-supported children and their families. The rebuild has also started, but it’s a long process.

Pray with us for those impacted by the Haiti earthquake 

After the dust settles and the media moves on, Compassion and the Haitian church aren’t leaving. We’re both called to the hard places of suffering. We’re called to rebuild as an act of hope and love.

Unfortunately, as you may have read in news reports, the aftermath of the earthquake has brought further hardship. Social unrest has led to security issues. Getting food, materials, and essential support to where they’re needed most has been made more challenging. We cannot support these communities alone. We need God’s help.

• Please pray for all those affected by the quake, for children and families in the middle of this devastation, as well as our staff and church partners.
• Please pray for those still without accommodation or in temporary structures. 
• May those in Haiti find comfort in the Lord at this crucial time and may aid quickly get to those who need it.
• Pray for peace in Haiti. That aid and materials would be able to get through to those who need it most and that the rebuilding effort would not be hindered.

Dear Lord, we thank you for your faithful people. For their generosity in responding to those in greatest need.

We pray especially for all those affected by the earthquake in Haiti. We pray for the mental and physical well-being of children and families still recovering. We pray that your love will shine through in the most difficult of circumstances. We commit the safety and security of those displaced from their homes, now in temporary accommodation, into your loving hands. We pray for Compassion’s staff supporting children and families, acting as your hands and feet.

Gracious Lord, we lift to you the rebuilding efforts. We ask that your favour be upon those skilled labourers and that building materials would arrive at sites without delay or hindrance.
