Pray for the Dengue Outbreak in Honduras

The Honduran government has declared a state of emergency due to the dengue fever epidemic. This mosquito-borne viral infection manifests itself in various forms ranging from mild symptoms which take about a week to recover from, to severe dengue which can be life threatening.

There have been more than 28,000 reported cases with more than 9,000 of these being severe dengue and tragically, 59 people have lost their lives.

22 Compassion projects and more than 204 Compassion-supported children have been affected, but Compassion staff are doing all they can to support local families who attend the projects. They have sent anyone with signs of the illness to local health care centres and hospitals and are visiting families in the area to ensure all those affected get the care they need.

Thanks to funding from Health Interventions, Compassion staff are raising awareness about preventative methods and distributing cleaning/hygiene kits throughout the country, with more than 3,8886 kits circulated to date. Compassion-supported children have also been given mosquito repellent and nets. The kits contain a mixture of chlorine and laundry detergent which can be spread on mosquito breeding grounds (e.g. water). Compassion projects are coordinating with the community and local families to provide training on prevention and treatment.

Heavenly Father, we pray for the thousands of adults and children affected by the dengue outbreak in Honduras. Please bring swift healing to those who are suffering and comfort them in their time of need. Keep them safe and protect their family and friends from any further illness.
