Christmas in Colombia

Christmas in Colombia

“I had not ever received a Christmas gift. I received trousers and a pair of sandals. I want to thank my sponsor. I love him. I will pray for my sponsor every day, wishing him to have a happy Christmas. I enjoy the Christmas celebration, especially the food that was delicious,” says seven-year-old Vanessa.

Two years ago, Vanessa and her friends celebrated Christmas for the first time at their Compassion project in San Onofre, Colombia. Like Vanessa, one of the highlights for many of the children was the festive meal served during the party.

In San Onofre poverty is rife and people live without safe drinking water and electricity. Most homes are made from recyclable materials and many of the children have never received a Christmas gift.

Imagine the excitement and surprise when every child received a gift at the Compassion project. Each carefully selected by project staff who understand their individual needs.

For eight-year-old Lina,“My gift was a beautiful dress that I wore home. I also received a t-shirt and shorts. I enjoyed the party. What I liked the most was the food.”
